Amber Heard To Play Red Sonja?
Movie News — By Sean on February 25, 2011 5:41 pm
amber heard red sonja Amber Heard To Play Red Sonja?By now, many of you have heard the rumors that super hot Amber Heard has been tossed around as a possible star of the upcoming film Red Sonja. [ Conan the Barbarian 2 and Red Sonja in the Works ] OK, that didn’t come out right, but I think you get what I mean. Red Sonja producer Avi Lerner had been telling insiders in Hollywood that he was looking at Heard for the role, but adding: “She doesn’t know it yet.”
Well now Heard has broken the silence and revealed that she has not only heard the rumors, but that her camp has been approached by the Red Sonja team, but nothing is finalized yet so she cannot comment beyond that. She goes on to tell Moviefone: “…I was surprised [by the rumors], but also it’s something I’ve been looking at for a while and kind of interested in.” Frankly, at least from a purely aesthetic point of view, I think Heard would look awesome in a mop of red hair as the barbarian warrior woman.
But this sparks an interesting discussion on what sort of interpretation of the character might be best for Hollywood and for fans. Should it be a subdued, I-can-barely-speak-English Brigitte Nielsen Sonja? How about a ball-busting Xena Warrior Princess Sonja courtesy of Lucy Lawless (who has the perfect name, by the way)? Or possibly a seductive and slender young vixen like Amber Heard or Megan Fox? They can go either way here and I’ll be interested to see which way the studio goes with the role. As mentioned in a previous post, Red Sonja is slated to begin production once Conan (the remake) finishes up. You can read the full interview on
